Africa a rising economic giant but?

The economist Online in January 2011 identified that six of the top 10 fastest growing economies during the period 2000-2010 were African countries. Angola topped this list with a growth rate of around 11.1 % more than China's which was 10.5%. Angola's  phenomenal growth during this period led to it moving from being regarded a Low Income Country to middle income country status. The Economist also forecasts that seven of the ten fastest growing economies during the period 2011-2015 will be African economies, other various forecasts indicate that by 2015 African economies growth rate will surpass that of Asia.

A stimulating and provocative book about sexual behaviour patterns of the street youths of Harare, Zimbabwe.People in the developing societies the world over are trying to understand the lives of the "Street Children".Dr Ruparanganda gives an important Socio-historical background to street dwelling. He also highlights important theoretical and methodological debates about power differentials between men and women in society. The book reveals the dangers the children of the street are exposed to. These include high probabilities of contracting the dreaded HIV and AIDS, sexually transmitted infections and skin diseases. Reproductive health practices on pregnancy management, abortion and street medication for STIs are also investigated. The book reads like a tragedy comedy, beginning with the origins of orphanhood, destitution and street dwelling, to the lived experiences of these youths. This reasearch will be invaluable to sociologists, anthropologists, decision makers and all those concerned about the emotive subject of street people of Sub-Saharan Africa.
